ALERT FM RECEIVER F.A.Q.

What is the ALERT FM Receiver?
The ALERT FM Receiver is a device which receives potentially lifesaving emergency alerts and mesages.

How does it work?
Emergency managers access a web-based portal, create a message, and choose the appropriate group to receive the message. The message is then relayed by satellite to the transmission towers of cooperating FM stations. The stations' FM towers then broadcast the message to the Receiver. Please visit How It Works for more information.

What types of alerts or messages will I receive?
With your ALERT FM Receiver, you could receive weather warnings from NOAA and emergency alerts and messages from state or local emergency management agencies, school districts, universities, businesses, or any entity that has purchased the ALERT FM system. To see what message sources are available in your area, please visit Programming Instructions. Please contact your local emergency managers if you are interested in receivign additional alerts and messages.

How do I setup my device?
Please see Chapter 2 in the ALERT FM Receiver User Guide.

What does it sound like?
The Receiver makes a high-pitched audible-tone, similar to a smoke alarm, when it receives an alert or message.

Is it portable?
Yes. Its light weight, small size, and battery back up make it convenient to transport. While traveling in a vehicle, we recommend charging the Receiver using the car charger.

What kind of battery does it use?
The Receiver uses an AA battery as a back up power source. For every day use, we recommend powering your Receiver using our wall or car charger.

What if I lose power in my home or business?
The Receiver has a compartment for an AA battery. During a power outage, the battery will automattically provide power to the Receiver.

How many addresses/services can be set in my ALERT FM Receiver?
The Receiver can hold up to 30 addresses and 30 services. Please visit Programming Instructionsfor the public address and service codes available in your area.

How do I remove an address or service from my Receiver?
Please see section 2.2 of the ALERT FM Receiver User Guide.
